T-shirt & Hoodie
Choosing the right fabric, printing technique and size directly affects the quality of t-shirt and hoodie printing projects. This product-focused guide offers clear guidance on practical issues such as fabric weight, DTG vs DTF differences, size chart, design positioning and washing instructions. With Podbul, you can refer to these basic notes when organizing order-to-production flows.
Fabric & weight
- Think 180-200 g/m² for everyday T-shirts and 160-170 g/m² for promotional or summer T-shirts.
- In Hoodie, 300 g/m² and above is suitable for winter use, 260-290 g/m² is suitable for seasonal use.
- Choose a high cotton content for DTG printing; DTF may be more stable on high gloss/synthetic substrates.
- Keep in mind that dark colors may require an off-white transition and can enhance the feel.
- Weight and textures may vary according to the manufacturer; Podbul Our Products check the technical notes on this page.
Printing techniques (DTG vs DTF)
DTG printing (Direct to Garment) is a method where the ink is applied directly to the fabric, offering a natural touch and breathable feel, especially on cotton substrates. DTF printing (Direct to Film) is a flexible solution where the design is printed on film and heat transferred to the textile, which is compatible with different types of fabrics and can provide high coverage. Both techniques may require the use of a white base on a dark background, depending on the fabric and design details. In the Podbul workflow, DTG or DTF can be routed according to the model and material; the choice depends on parameters such as surface, color and quantity.
- For a natural feel and soft handle: DTG printing on high cotton content T-shirts.
- For material diversity and strong coverage: DTF printing on blended fabrics and hoodies.
- Use clear vectors for fine detail/writing; aim for a minimum thickness of ~1 pt for very thin lines.
- For file preparation, choose PNG/TIFF with 300 DPI, sRGB color profile and transparent area.
Size & measurements
Sharing the correct size information clearly in POD sales both increases customer satisfaction and significantly reduces return rates. Adult clothing models in Podbul products are mostly offered in the S-3XL range; some designs may have larger size options depending on stock availability. For this reason, it is recommended to check our products page to see the most up-to-date size range for each model.
Design and positioning
Design positioning and print area limits are critical for both appearance and manufacturability. On T-shirts, the large front-to-back print area is often limited by equipment and size; hoodie details such as hoods, pockets and zippers can narrow the application area. Matching the design ratio in mockup images to the actual print area ratio helps to accurately reflect the perception of size. The print area and maximum dimensions may be specified on a model-by-model basis on the Podbul product page; final scaling should be based on these values.
- Common vertical areas for front chest large print: approx. 30×40-32×45 cm range (depending on model).
- Left chest logo: 8×8-10×10 cm; often centered 6-8 cm below the collar seam.
- Back print: 30×40 cm in vertical compositions, starting 7-10 cm below the nape of the neck.
- Hoodie designs that spill over kangaroo pockets and zipper lines are risky; take this into account for jobs that require a continuous surface.
- Mockup proportions: 3:4 or 5:6 for large vertical prints; 1:1 square for small chest logos; make the file 300 DPI (e.g. 3600×4800 px or 4500×5400 px).
- Leave at least 1-2 cm of safe margin around the edges; avoid very fine details and micro-lettering.
Care & use
Proper care prolongs the life of the print and the fabric. The following washing instruction items are a general guideline for both DTG printed and DTF printed textiles. The instructions on the manufacturer's label always take precedence and may vary slightly depending on the fabric type.
The instructions on each product's own manufacturer's label take precedence; sellers sharing basic maintenance information in the description section increases customer satisfaction and reduces return rates.
- Turn the product inside out and wash at around 30°C with similar colors.
- Do not use bleach and optical brighteners; apply stain removers away from the print.
- Prefer low-speed spinning; hang dry instead of tumble drying.
- If ironing is necessary, iron on the reverse side at low heat, avoiding direct contact with the print.
- Do not recommend dry cleaning; protect the printed surface from friction.
- Minimize potential dye release by washing separately in the first wash.
